2008 - Present: Lucky Hearts Campaign

MMAE celebrates 75 years of service by donating portable heart defibrillators (AED's) to community organizations. In a partnership with MEDIC, MMAE initiates the “Lucky Hearts” campaign, a long-term project focused on increased cardiac arrest survival through advocacy, education, and the increased availability of defibrillators. MMAE also honors the "Heroes Among Us" - individuals who leapt into action during a cardiac emergency and used an AED to save a life - at the Gift of Health Gala, a fundraiser and anniversary celebration.

Additional MMAE Projects
Additional Projects

MMAE’s efforts to improve community health reach beyond the borders of our organization and deep into the heart of Mecklenburg County. The list of organizations that have been served by our efforts, both volunteer or financial is a long and diverse one. As an affiliate of the National AMA-Alliance, we are encouraged to get out and make a difference but sometimes a difference isn’t big and flashy. Take a few minutes to review the “short” list of those organizations we’ve assisted in recent years. We think you’ll be impressed.
Violence Prevention Efforts

In 2004, the MMAE donated $55,000 to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to purchase a second DNA analysis machine allowing it to double its capacity and increase its ability to solve cold cases. Donation of cameras, equipment, and computers to document spousal and child abuse in Emergency Rooms. MMAE also initiated the creation of Hospital Safety Cards for women who are victims of domestic violence. The cards, which direct women to shelter, are placed in hospital emergency and rest rooms.
