Cannon Award

In 1984, the Mecklenburg Medical Alliance established the James Gray Cannon Award. This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, on a voluntary basis toward the advancement of medical care and good health in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community. Past recipients include hospital volunteers, organization founders, and board members. They are people, who through their unselfish dedication to an organization or cause have made a difference in our community.

Perhaps there is such a person in your organization and we invite your nomination of this person. Nominations may be made by completing the enclosed nomination form. The deadline is (deadline.) Volunteers, as well as health care professionals volunteering outside their paid position are eligible for the Cannon Award. A nominee will remain on active file for consideration for three years. Physicians, their spouses, and members of the Alliance are not eligible. The award is an engraved plaque and a $1000.00 donation to the charity of the recipient’s choice.

Jean Gaskin Vision Award

The Mecklenburg Medical Society Alliance established the Jean Gaskin Vision Award in 1996. This award is named for and was first given to Jean Gaskin to honor her enduring contributions and extraordinary leadership within the Alliance. The award, which shall be presented rarely, is a $5,000 grant given in honor or in memory of an Alliance member who has demonstrated exceptional vision and outstanding leadership. The recipient is involved in the selection of the health agency to receive the grant. A nomination may be submitted in writing to the Alliance President by any Alliance member, noting that the high standards set by the original recipient are the benchmark for the future. The Jean Gaskin Vision Award is the highest award the Alliance can bestow on a member.


Genie Hayes Distinguished Service Award

The Mecklenburg Medical Alliance and Endowment established the Genie Hayes Distinguished Service Award in 2007. This award was named for and first presented to Genie Hayes to honor her strong leadership skills and her unselfish donation of time and talents to the Alliance over the years. The recipient will be listed in the Yearbook with other honorees, and will receive an engraved memento which shall be presented, when awarded, at the Annual May Meeting.
