Bruce Perry, MD, PhD
Dr. Perry is the Senior Fellow of the Child Trauma Academy, a not-for-profit organization based in Houston, and adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Northwestern University School of Medicine.
As keynote speaker at the Community Health Luncheon, Dr. Perry will focus on how empathy, the ability to recognize and share the feelings of others, is a crucial human quality that underlies love, friendship, and parenting.

MMAE and Charlotte AHEC would like to offer parents with special needs children, an opportunity to attend the Parent Conference. For a donation of $120, you can purchase a luncheon ticket for yourself and make an $85 tax-deductible contribution to the Mecklenburg Medical Endowment, which will be used to underwrite a deserving parent’s participation in the half day parent conference and luncheon. Conference Opportunities
Along with the luncheon, Charlotte AHEC is offering 2 educational programs to further explore empathy and the role it plays in child development. You can register for these programs on the Charlotte AHEC website through the date of the program, if places are available. The program options include:

Coinciding with Dr. Perry’s morning session will be a special parent workshop conducted by Dr. Dawn O’Malley. According to Dr. O’Malley, “We know more than ever about what it takes to raise a happy, healthy, and emotionally resilient children.”
Dr. O’Malley is a certified graduate of the Child Trauma Academy and clinical director of the Alexander Youth Network.
